SpekrFreks and Melleefresh and Billy Newton – Candy
So, I got a hold of a promo copy of this EP, and as such, I feel I should review it.
This EP comes loaded up with 5 versions of “Candy” and also a bonus Melleefresh vs. SpekrFreks song called “Chocolate Bunny.”
Tracklist:
1. Candy (Original Mix)
2. Candy (Per Hammar Tech House Mix)
3. Candy (Radio Edit)
4. Candy (Zoltan Kontes & Jerome Robins vs Melleefresh Tech Dub Mix)
5. Candy (Zoltan Kontes & Jerome Robins vs Melleefresh Tech Vocal Mix)
6. Chocolate Bunny (Original Mix)
I have found that, in my opinion, the combo of Melleefresh & SpekrFreks seems to always = big win dance tracks that I am guaranteed to love. This EP follows that formula.
The Original mix of “Candy” rocks the house! It’s got that big, thick, SpekrFreks groovy bassline that I love so much with the playfully dirty vocals of Melleefresh. “Candy” spins at a perfect house rhythm of 128 bpm. Melleefresh beckons the question: would you like to taste her candy? And continues on to describe it in her usual erotic fashion so well liked from previous tracks.
The Per Hammar Tech House Mix keeps things nice and simple in a Tech House fashion, dropping the fat thick thick bass lines and verse lyrics for a more simple groove and series of loops. If you are into tech house, you will probably love this.
The Radio Edit is pretty self explanatory. It’s the original mix minus intro and outro, a more radio friendly version.
There are then the Tech Dub and Tech Vocal mixes which are two more tech versions of the track: one with a nice dub flare the other keeping that tech feel, but bringing back more lyrical content.
My favorite, at this point, is the Original Mix because its more the style music I like to spin and have grown to love. But, there is definitely something for everyone on this disc, and I am sure when you get it, you will find a version you love.
The bonus track, “Chocolate Bunny” is Melleefresh and SpekrFreks again. Melleefresh brings lyrics about being your chocolate bunny in an almost cartoonish and playful way, and SpekrFreks bring more of their unique electro house sound to the table: slammin wobbly bass lines and electro sounds. This song feels geared up for the Easter season and I love it. I don’t know why, but I eat up anything that has these artists involved.
